Denny Lyon Gifts: New Design: Too Happy Octopus

Too Happy Octupus Shower Curtain

Too Happy Octopus Shower Curtain

Check out this happy octopus, a sci-fy thinker!

Denny Lyon Gifts: New Design: Too Happy Octopus:  From Denny:  It's summer and time to hit the beach!  Maybe if you are lucky enough to live in a place like Florida where the beach is year round, maybe not.  You can always bring the beach and the denizens of the ocean indoors with this fun design.

This octopus is a real scify thinker and a happy guy sure to make you smile.  The design is on all manner of products at Cafe Press/DennyLyonGifts, from handbags and totes to t-shirts and bedding, posters too.  Take a look and enjoy browsing my Denny Lyon Gifts site.  All my profits go to two charities I really love:  St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank here in Louisiana (where they feed almost half of the state!)

Thanks for stopping by for a look and please be sure to pass the word on to your friends and relatives to help fund these charities!  Thank you!

Ouch Outrageous Obnoxious and Odd: Funny Cartoon From Raymond Betancourt: When Cool Got Left Behind

Ouch Outrageous Obnoxious and Odd: Funny Cartoon From Raymond Betancourt: When Cool Got Left Behind: "From Denny: Definitely when old guys get into trouble at the golf course. It sure does make your brain revisit getting old and wondering if you really want to be part of the longevity generation. Time for a proper monkey scream. Hmmmm..."

Dennys: News Politics Comedy Science Arts & Food: Posts Roundup at Dennys Blogs - 17 April 2011: "While the Japanese nuclear crisis continues unabated, the rest of the world has moved on, dreading the inevitable. At the moment the world community has pressured Japan to come up with a plan to contain or deal with the crisis over a nine month period.

Why the same people are in charge of this mess that created the mess is a mystery. It's as foolish as it was to trust BP to clean up the oil spill disaster in my own Gulf of Mexico. Serious hardships still exist as a result of President Obama and BP refusing to do what it takes to make things right, especially in Louisiana.

At the very least the President could do is refuse to allow BP access to any of America's oil fields on or off shore. The company has simply not earned the right to drill for oil on American soil or in our oceans."

Dennys Art Sanctuary: 38 Creative March Desktop Wallpapers

Dennys Art Sanctuary: 38 Creative March Desktop Wallpapers: "What do we think of when we reflect upon the month of March? We think of Winter ending, Spring coming in on the cool winds, soaking Spring rains, the trees leafing out and green weeds. There is the fun celebration of St. Patrick's Day. And there is the old adage, 'March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.' These designers took these all as their inspirations."

Cool Video: Prez Obama Honored for Nobel in Sand Sculpture

From Denny: This is an Oddball segment from Keith Olbermann's Countdown show. Since it's October we get to watch folks in Lincoln County, Maine smash huge pumpkins. They put the several hundred pound pumpkins on a crane high in the air and then drop them onto decommissioned old police cars. Sort of gives you some satisfaction for that speeding or parking ticket you felt you never deserved from whatever decade... :)

What's really cool is the incredible sand sculpture a world renowned sand artist in India did on a local beach in Puri, India recently. The artist is Sudarshan Patanaik and his sculpture is four feet high, depicting President Obama's head embedded in a Nobel Peace Prize medal with an accompanying dove and a message pro Peace. This man is quite the artist! So glad a film crew went out there and recorded it; maybe he will do a painting or print photo to sell as posters? Beautifully done as well as a political statement art.

Abstract Optical Illusions: Faces

First you will notice a man's face. Look closely and you will also see a word spelled out on the diagonal. Hint: Begins with the letter "L."

Saving the best for last. If the text is too small on the photo here are the instructions:

1 – Relax and concentrate on the 4 small dots in the center for about 30 seconds

2 – Change your focus over to a wall near you, a smooth single-colored surface

3 – A circle of light will begin to develop

4 – Blink your eyes a few times and a figure will begin to emerge

5 – What do you see – who do you see?

This is one of the coolest illustions I've seen yet and the last thing I ever expected! Our brains can entertain us all day long...

Brain: How to Think like Leonardo da Vinci

Cover of "How to Think Like Leonardo da V...Cover via Amazon

"In this post, I present a summary of the mind-expanding bestseller How to Think like Leonardo da Vinci: Seven Steps to Genius Every Day, along with some thoughts about Leonardo and the book.

Leonardo is not only probably the greatest genius ever: he’s the one that most fully embodies the ‘Renaissance Man‘ ideal. Pursuing that ideal means being focused not on excelling on a single knowledge domain, but on having a holistic view of excellence in life. It means much more than just intellectual achievement, it means full realization of human potential in every aspect.

In How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci, author Michael Gelb does a superb job of capturing the essence of Leonardo’s genius and laying it out in a practical framework for self-improvement. Here are the 7 key areas that shaped Leonardo’s genius and which you can use as a framework for your own self-improvement..."

From Denny: One of the key areas of Da Vinci's steps for self-improvement that contributed easily to creative problem-solving is "Sfumato: A willingness to embrace ambiguity, paradox, and uncertainty." This is where I think many experts fall down on the job. It's also why so many of their pronouncements come off sounding childish and off-kilter at times be it from the science, medical or academic communities.

The past eight years of fundamentalism affecting our politics, religion and educational communities has caused a reversal back to simplistic concrete thinking. Concrete thinking doesn't allow for ambiguity, the large grey zone between black and white that takes into account a myriad of things - like shifting time lines affected by our perceptions and resulting decisions.
