Dennys Global Politics: Obama Statements and Releases: Veto Message to the Senate: S. 1, Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act

President Barack Obama meets with John Podesta, Counselor to the President, in the Oval Office, Jan. 29, 2015. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

Dennys Global Politics: Obama Statements and Releases: Veto Message to the Senate: S. 1, Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act: From Denny:  President Obama's only veto in five years.  He vetoed it citing America's national security.  Actually, it was a clever political move to box in the Republicans.  It's easy for them to be against any and all things environmental, even financial burdens on the taxpayers - but national security?  Nope.  Not in an election cycle when the Republicans are hoping to take back the White House.  To go against a presidential decision about national security would be political suicide.

Besides, Americans have nothing to gain by giving a foreign country and their Big Oil easy profits but with no liabilities.  If there would an accident or an act of terrorism it's the American people who would be on the hook financially, not to mention a very toxic clean-up as tar sands oil is exceedingly toxic unlike normal crude oil.  Good move, Mr. President!...

Dennys World News May 2014: U.S., World NEWS LINKS:

*** updates daily ***  From Denny:  Back up blogging after weeks long onslaught of Russian cyberattacks on my blogs.  Oh, well, nothing like waiting them out and recircling like a proper yard cat.  A lot of fussing and cussing at Blogger and Google up on Twitter was also helpful.

Nor am I well impressed with the NSA and CIA gremlins still surveilling me because of my vociferous opinions about their police state tactics, especially against journalists.  These days, as a journalist, it's getting more difficult to tell the Good Guys Governments from the Bad Guys Governments because ALL of them are suppressing the Truth from every media outlet quarter, including bloggers.

Of course, you didn't think a little strong arming would stop me, now did you?...

A Truth Journal: End Ukraine Occupation: Force Money Out Of Russia By Defying Industrialists

John Sherffius

A Truth Journal: End Ukraine Occupation: Force Money Out Of Russia By Defying Industrialists: From Denny:  Europe's military and EU politicians, most notably Germany, are making the very same mistakes that were made during the lead up to World War Two:  appeasement of a world bully hell bent on expansionism as a strategy for land grabs and natural resource hoarding.

The same propaganda lies are employed in this generation as previously:  "Oh, our ethnic population in foreign lands need us to come rescue them from their host countries." The names of the villains have changed but the strategy and ruthlessness remain the same.  In this generation, instead of Germany on the march, it's Russia that is on the march across Europe, claiming to first make a short stop and "rescue" ethnic Russians in former Soviet satellite countries.

Once Putin is done conquering his nearest - and very weak - neighbors he plans to move across all of Europe.  He's gambling that NATO is too weak and indecisive to oppose him.  Will NATO prove him right in his assessment?  Stay tuned.  Right now, countries like Germany, France, the UK and Italy are too slow to react to Putin's aggression, comfortable in the false belief they will not ever be attacked because they are trading partners and of great benefit to him.  Wake up, Europe, and run from your comfort zone.  "Why trade with a country when Russia can outright own them?" is Putin's thinking right now...

A Truth Journal: Ukraine Occupation: Putin Rejects Peace, Release Crippling Sanctions: From Denny:  While Russia's government is held hostage by the Russian crime syndicate, it's the head crime boss thug, Putin, who continues to threaten weaker countries like Ukraine, Moldova, Estonia and Bulgaria.

World leaders actually believe they are negotiating with another head of state - when nothing could be farther from the truth.

What world leaders are negotiating with is a crime boss whose wealth profits come from the misery of the vilest of newer more potent drugs, arms dealing that enables genocide like in Syria, prostitution of little children and the slavery of human trafficking.  Yes, the Russian crime syndicate's human trafficking is operating in your home town right here in America and around the world...

A Truth Journal: XL Keystone Pipeline: Why Should America Take All The Risks and No Benefits?

XL Pipeline Protest
XL Pipeline Protest (Photo credit: Talk Radio News Service)

A Truth Journal: XL Keystone Pipeline: Why Should America Take All The Risks and No Benefits?: From Denny:  Once again greedy Big Business seeks to hang the American taxpayers with all the liabilities - while they make billions in profits, free to walk away when it goes bad.

The XL Keystone Pipeline is a huge boondoggle that comes out of Canada.  Apparently, the Canadian firm, TransCanada, along with some American energy partners sum up their business mantra in one chant, "Let the Americans pay for it!"

Our State Department has been on a fool's errand writing up a study on the impact on America's environment, concluding it would not be a problem, in order to act like they are satisfying the environment folks.  As usual, everyone rivets their focus upon the distraction, taking their eye off the obvious.

The Social Poets: Billionaire Koch Brothers Send Attack Lobbyists to Stop Energy Legislation

The Social Poets: Billionaire Koch Brothers Send Attack Lobbyists to Stop Energy Legislation: "From Denny: The famous Koch Brothers, who love to meddle in the very same government they claim should not basically exist, are now flexing their financial muscles again. They are demanding legislators lose the proposed energy legislation for natural gas subsidies to help wean America off oil.

Of course, Koch Industries, based out of Kansas, primarily has interests in oil, refining and pipelines as well as chemicals and consumer products like toilet paper (Angel Soft) and paper towels (Brawny). These are the same numb nuts that want to burrow an oil sands pipeline straight up through America to Canada from Houston.

Did I mention they want to dig said crazy pipeline under the only fresh drinking water, an underground glacier, for the entire Midwest population? Oh, and they claim 'it's perfectly safe and nothing will go wrong.' Uh, huh, and that's what BP told us here in Louisiana about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill clean up."

Dennys Global Politics: Libya: Rebels Sell Us 1st Oil Production: "From Denny: Sec. of State Hillary Clinton is pleased to report the rebels are producing oil for the West, selling us their first batch. Can it be America has finally found someone willing to repay us for all the blood and money we have spent on them?

What a nice change of pace is this turn of events. My Democrats may finally be getting practical and downright useful instead of useless."

Gulf Coast Oil Rig Disaster Slammed: Political Cartoons 1 May 2010

From Denny: OK, I live on the Gulf Coast of Mexico in Louisiana. May I be the first to say, "Thank you, British Petroleum, upon behalf of the American taxpayers and the struggling seafood industry in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and Florida, oh, thank you for lying to us about the impact of your arrogant Titanic style oil rig that "was too big to fail." You have done us such a service.

You have made the American taxpayers realize we cannot trust foreign governments to do their part and clean up their own environmental messes. Not only did you lie to us, you lied to the world. Not only are you "flocking" cheap, you delayed jumping on a solution for this disaster in a timely manner, therefore, with a depraved indifference, you allowed the disaster to multiply when it could have been contained and minimized.

Might I also add, oh, thank you, for refusing to create a clean up plan and not submitting it to our Dept. of Energy because you were so arrogant as to believe you would never have to be responsible for billions of dollars of economic loss, loss of wildlife and their sanctuaries and job loss.

Oh, mighty oil and gas companies, the public bows at your feet for your magnanimous disservice to the world. Somehow, the Cover My A$$ agenda of yours backfired and the truth leaked out as fast as the crude oil into the ocean. This could take a decade from which to recover, no thanks to you and your greedy CEO.

Now, will someone please ban the British off our shores in a timely manner? While you are at it, ban the Saudis from owning our banks and our ports. How crazy is that? We allow known terrorist countries to own our economic system. Did any of our brilliant government leaders ever consider that maybe the most effective way to take down an enemy is from within the economic system???

Speaking of destroying us from within, why oh, why is the President actually giving the green light to the oil industry to do more drilling off our coasts? Has he learned nothing from the current disaster? And while he's on that learning curve, he needs to investigate his own Dept of Energy and which nitwit OK'd British Petroleum without a clean-up plan in the first place. Fire them. They are not good stewards of our resources for one. Additionally, it smells like just maybe there is a bribe in the dark here or why else would BP have passed muster when they should not have?

Anyway, rant aside, these are some great political cartoons about the recent and ever-growing oil rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, right off the shore of my state of Louisiana. I do so love the way our federal government does not give Louisiana the promised oil royalties to clean up the mess these American and foreign oil companies do to the land and the ocean in our area - and they have been destroying the land for decades now. The energy companies take what they want and then leave us, the local taxpayers, with the mess. Is is any wonder that Louisiana is known for its poverty?

Then our corrupt state government is busy using those sporadic federal monies to build bridges to literally nowhere and pocketing the rest for their campaigns for President like current Governor Bobby Jindal.

It's no wonder the wildlife is leaving America and flying to safer shores. I hope they save room for me and mine as we just might be joining them sooner than later to escape the cultural and political madness here.

Video: How Nuclear Energy is Made

From Denny: This first video is an introduction to how nuclear energy creates electricity. Of the 104 nuclear power plants in America how odd NBC chose to profile the one only an hour away from me in St. Francisville, Louisiana.

The second video was done in December 2008 before Obama took office and it discusses the highly controversial issue of toxic radioactive waste: what to do with it and where to store it when no one wants it in their back yard.

Nebulas - nature's wonders hidden from many:

"What are Nebulas?

Nebulas are interstellar bodies; clouds of dust, (hydrogen, alpha and beta) gas and plasma. The mixture attracts other matter and finally beautiful stars are formed. Some nebulas form while the stars are in the process of formation and others are formed while stars undergo destruction. You can often sight them in a dark night."

Astronomy: A New Push to Turn Off the Lights in 2009

"Astronomers are fed up. One fifth of the world's population cannot see the Milky Way because street lamps and building lights are too bright. So scientists are mounting a new campaign, called Dark Skies Awareness, aiming to reduce light pollution as part of the 2009 International Year of Astronomy.

"Reducing the number of lights on at night could help conserve energy, protect wildlife and benefit human health," astronomer Malcolm Smith of the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile wrote in a commentary Wednesday in the journal Nature.

Smith points out that billions of dollars of light is needlessly shined into the sky each year. Beyond the waste of money and energy, this light is blocking people's view of the heavens.

"Without a direct view of the stars, mankind is cut off from most of the universe, deprived of any direct sense of its huge scale and our tiny place within it," Smith wrote.

Plus, lights confuse and harm wildlife. For example, millions of birds in North America die every year because their migration patterns are disrupted by errant light. And baby sea turtles hatched in the sand often mistakenly head toward cities, instead of the sea, because they are lured by artificial lights.

Preliminary research even suggests that light at night is harmful to human health, potentially reducing the normal production of melatonin in our bodies, which suppresses cell division in cancerous tissue."

By Clara Moskowitz

From Denny: Like a lot of people I'm all for conserving energy and not wasting it needlessly. When we vacationed in Greece a few years back we were astonished at how many stars we could see in the sky with the naked eye. Talk about feel cheated when we got back home to America and suburbia! I've often wondered if turning out the city lights could boost our ability to see the skies in more detail.

What I didn't know is how excessive light during the night hours may be the reason for the increase in cancer this generation. That's a sobering thought! Even if it is only part of the problem it is significant to consider changing.

Simple Energy and Money Saving Ideas

Simple Energy and Money Saving Ideas: "Each year, homes in America waste approximately thirteen billion dollars in energy—translating to about one-hundred fifty dollars per family. A significant amount of energy consumption can be reduced on a national level just by making minor adjustments around the house that are low-cost or no-cost. These changes can add up to substantial savings over time."
